Is it possible to think you are right with the Lord and be far from Him? Is it possible for our outward acts of worship to be hated by the Lord? Yes. In Amos 5, we see that there is worship that the Lord hates. This is worship that is external only. No sincerity. No faith. No repentance. In short: hypocritical. The Day of the Lord, His coming and His judgment, is the day the hypocrite hates to see because all pretense will be stripped away. God doesn't want your outward shows of worship. He wants your heart.
