Chapter 2:18-23
Who is the Antichrist?



1 John 2:12-14 NKJV

12 I write to you, little children,
Because your sins are forgiven you for His name’s sake.
13 I write to you, fathers,
Because you have known Him who is from the beginning.
I write to you, young men,
Because you have overcome the wicked one.
I write to you, little children,
Because you have known the Father.
14 I have written to you, fathers,
Because you have known Him who is from the beginning.
I have written to you, young men,
Because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you,
And you have overcome the wicked one. 

V. The antichrist is anybody that opposes Jesus as the Son of God. (18-23)
A. The last hour is marked by the denial and defiance of God. (18)

Matthew 25:4,5 NKJV

4 And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. 
B. The antichrist is marked by the arrival of the apostate church. (19)

1. The visible church- the visible group that participates in local worship and fellowship. These are those people that have an outwardly showing of membership inside the church. 
2. The invisible church- those among the visible church that have the inward or spiritual dedication to the true church of Christ.
1 Timothy 6:10 NKJV

10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. 

Titus 1:11 KJV

11 Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre’s sake. 

2 Peter 2:1,2 NKJV

1 But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. 2 And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed.    
C. True Christians are Spirit filled. (20)

Acts 17:11 NKJV

11 These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so. 
D. The truth of God is undeniable, Christians do not deny it in any way. (21)
E. Anybody that denies Jesus is antichrist and does not truly know God. (22,23)

1 John 2:22 RSV

22 Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son. 

John 14:6,7 NKJV

6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. 7 “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.”
