Dr. Hasmukh Patel is the CEO and co-founder of AgeCare, a network of nursing home facilities situated across Western Canada. The son of Indian immigrants, Dr. Patel was born and raised in Kenya and studied family medicine in England, before moving to rural Alberta with his wife and two young children in 1987. In an effort to improve the quality of long-term care facilities and clinical care for seniors, Dr. Patel designed, built and operated the first 86-bed AgeCare home in 1998, raising the required capital through bank debt and private equity from friends and family. After expanding to 15 facilities in the following 20 years, with 2900 beds and 3100 staff, Axium Infrastructure Fund acquired a majority equity partnership in AgeCare in 2019.
