Australia's political landscape has become somewhat less stable since the 2007 general election with six changes in Prime Minister, a 'minority government' at times, and a rise in the importance and influence of independent candidates. This mix of political instability has made sensible, visionary long-term policymaking that much harder.

While undecided voters are left to ponder who they’d like to see in power after May 21, investors have even more questions – like what does the election mean for markets? What policy differences are there between the major parties? And what challenges lie ahead for the next government, no matter who that may be?
