Listen "Ukuleles On The Shore"

Episode Synopsis

This is a song I wrote in September 2016, inspired by the Ukulele Hooley By The Sea in Dún Laoghaire, a ukulele festival I went in Ireland. I wanted to write something about ukuleles in the style of sea shanty, but as the action takes place on the shore, it's more of a shore shanty.

This recording was made in November 2017 and features me on vocals, with accompaniment on the tenor and baritone ukuleles, and vocal percussion.

The photo is one I took of a beach in Reykjavik in October 2017. The ukuleles appeared later.

The chords are C, G and F.

Here are the words;

I went down to the shore today
With my ukulele
I went down to the shore today
With my ukulele

With my ukulele
With my ukulele
I went down to the shore today
With my ukulele

On the shore I spied a lass
With a ukulele

She said to me won’t you play awhile
On your ukulele

So I sat with her and we played some songs
On our ukuleles

Then she said to me now I must go
With my ukulele

I said to her why must you go?
With your ukulele

She said to me I’ve got a boat to catch
Early in the morning

So now I’m here all on my own
With my ukulele
