Listen "African American History in Ophthalmology - Part 1"
Episode Synopsis
This episode of Sight for Sore Eyes is the first of a two-part series exploring the history of the AA experience in medicine and ophthalmology and how it is intimately intertwined with US history. In this episode I speak with Dr.Johnson, who is a professor of ophthalmology at Brown University. He is Deputy Chief of Ophthalmology and Section Chief of Neuro-ophthalmology at Rhode Island Hospital. He is a well-known neuro-ophthalmologist and one of less than two dozen African American neuro-ophthalmologists in our specialty. He is also the author of the book, Breaking the Color Line in Medicine, African Americans in Ophthalmology, which is the definitive history of the AA experience in our field. He is a wonderful storyteller and I believe you will enjoy our conversation as much as I did.
