Listen "A Searching Shepherd"
Episode Synopsis
Self-help books that promise life transformation are everywhere. An article in the New York Times that is now over 10 years old reported that “the self-help movement has mushroomed into an 11 billion dollar industry devoted to telling us how to improve our lives.” The article reported that in 2013, there were over 45,000 self-help books in print. That number would probably be much larger today.
The most popular topics include: diet and exercise, improving your marriage, getting control of your finances, stress management, and overcoming addictions. Clearly we know something is wrong with us, we’re just not sure where to start.
Maybe the place to start is here. If self could help, we would have all been fixed a long time ago. What if instead of self-help, we all began to ask for God’s help? In Luke 15, Jesus tells a story about a shepherd that leaves 99 of his sheep in his field to find one that has wandered away. His wandering not only took him from the shepherds’ care, but endangered him, as domesticated sheep are defenseless in the wild. In this story, God is the shepherd, and every single one of us has been this lost sheep. A sheep lost in the wilderness doesn’t need a book on how to help itself, it needs a shepherd to come to its rescue. As lost sheep, we need far more than a book, we need a Savior!
Join us this weekend as we discover God’s heart for seeking and rescuing lost people, as well as the key to life transformation and change.
