Listen "Advent (3) - From Watching to Recognising"
Episode Synopsis
In this Third Sunday of Advent message, From Watching to Recognising, we are invited to move beyond simply waiting for Jesus to come, and to learn how to recognise Him when He is already at work. Drawing on Isaiah 35 and Matthew 11, this sermon explores how Jesus our Messiah brings life into dry and weary places, often quietly and patiently. Like a desert beginning to bloom after rain, Jesus brings signs of new life through kindness, forgiveness, healing, hope, and the gentle restoration of hearts and communities. The message also reminds us that God keeps His promises, though not always in the ways we expect. Through Jesus’ response to John the Baptist, we see that the true marks of the Messiah are compassion, faithfulness, and good news for the poor, not power or spectacle. Advent, then, calls us not only to watch, but to trust: to recognise Jesus’ voice and work even in disappointment, waiting, and hardship. As we approach Christmas, we are encouraged to behold Christ already among us, and to respond with grateful, patient faith, confident that He is at work, even now.Recorded at the 7.45am Service on Sunday 14th December 2025Readings: Isaiah 35:1–6a & Matthew 11:2–6Preacher: Jeremy Jobling
