Listen "How We Celebrate?"
Episode Synopsis
An interesting discussion on celebrations and what they mean to us and in society. From very personal celebrations to national holidays, celebrations can evoke a lot of different thoughts and feelings. Canada Day, for example, is a celebration of Canada, but it does not reflect the Indigenous experience in Canada. Holidays can be hijacked by commercialism and fuel expectations that can take away from the holiday and evoke a sense of loneliness. On the flip side, celebrations can also take us out of our everyday life and create a special moment to have a conversation or commemorate someone or something. New celebrations like Pride parades can arise in protest and be an affirmation. We end with the thought that celebrating achievements and accomplishments like finishing a renovation or receiving a degree can be made very meaningful when done with intention and fun.
