Listen "09. 100-Mile Ultra: Pre-Race Thoughts"
Episode Synopsis
In this podcast, I’m taking you on the wildest journey of my life—training for and running my first 100-mile ultra marathon. It all started when I saw my friend post about her training, and I couldn’t believe it—she was preparing for a 100-miler. I didn’t think twice before reaching out to her, and less than two weeks later, I was all in.
At the time, I hadn’t run more than 13.1 miles in years, and I was averaging zero miles per week. But here I am, just days away from toeing the line at the Phoenix 100-mile ultra.
Along the way, I’ve learned more about myself than I ever imagined: about the process, the importance of not overthinking, and the people who’ve been with me every step of the way.
In this episode, I’m sharing my experiences, the lessons I’ve learned, and the raw emotions that come with training for a race that seemed impossible just months ago. I’m also diving deep into the mental and emotional side of endurance training—how I've managed fear, doubt, and the moments when my body felt like it was giving up. But I kept pushing, and now I'm ready to face my biggest challenge yet: running 100 miles in less than 30 hours.
Here’s what you’ll hear in this episode:
The real highs and lows of ultra-distance training
How focusing on one day, one workout, and one mile at a time made all the difference
The mental hurdles I’ve overcome and the lessons I’ve learned about pushing through doubt
The unexpected connections and moments of support from the people around me
The personal growth and faith that came from stepping into something way outside my comfort zone
As I prepare to race on December 29th, I’m sharing the behind-the-scenes of my training and what I’ve learned along the way. Whether you're an athlete, someone thinking about setting a big goal, or just need some inspiration to push through your own challenges, I hope my journey will remind you that growth often happens when you step into the unknown.
I’ve got one job left: run 100 miles. And I’m ready to give it everything I’ve got. Come along for the ride.
