When Israel requested for Samuel to give them a king, they rejected God in doing so (cf. 1 Samuel 8). God warned them about the king they would receive, and gave them their desire. The ongoing problems Israel would have with the kings of their history proves that God’s ways are greater than our own. Israel needed to submit to God’s original intentions which placed Him at the helm of the nation instead of requesting a man lead them. We need to allow Christ the place that belongs to Him on the the throne of our heart.
