Listen "Zen - Introduction, Bodhidharma & Emperor Wu"
Episode Synopsis
In the 5th century, Bodhidharma, a self-realized buddhist, walked from India to China. Initiated by an enlightened woman, the former Indian prince left on a three-year journey across the Himalayas to deliver Buddha's teachings.Swaha introduces his disciples and friends to the Zen tradition, telling the story of this wild man, known as "The Barbarian," who in China brought life to the ancient scriptures, shook up Emperor Wu with lessons, and sat in a cave for nine years, waiting for a true disciple to come. Among many contributions, Bodhidharma gifted the world with martial arts, which he developed in the Shaolin Temple by combining animal movements and the quietness of meditation.Vasant Swaha is an enlightened Master sharing his love, joy, and wisdom in retreats. This is an excerpt from a Satsang on the 5th of January, 2015, during the “Zen Snow, Zen Fire” Silent Retreat in Dharma Mountain, Norway. For more information visit www.vasantswaha.net.
