Listen "Viola Desmond - A Symbolic Day"
Episode Synopsis
In 1946, Viola Desmond was found guilty of tax evasion and was forced to pay a fine and court costs of $26 for challenging racial segregation at a movie theater in New Glasgow. The province pardoned her in 2010 and this week, they made a symbolic repayment to Viola's sister Wanda Robson. African Nova Scotian Affairs Minister Tony Ince says it's important to remember our history as we work towards ending systemic racism.
