Episode Synopsis

Send us a textAfter Joseph Smiths Vision of God the Father and Jesus Christ The Son, he spent the next 3 years being much of a normal teenage boy.  Although he had attracted some attention good and bad, he was still able to leave a mostly normal life.  All of that would soon change as he sought God in prayer one evening.  There he asked good for forgiveness and asked for another Heavenly visitation.  He received it as Moroni visited him 3 times that night.  The next morning, while working, his father noticed he was struggling to keep up and looked pale.  His father instructed him to go home.  On his way him, crossing the fence, he collapsed.  He awoke to Moroni, again telling him to tell his father all that had transpired.  Joseph did as Moroni instructed and his father told him it was of God and to do all that was asked of him. Joseph spent the next 3 years trying to obtain the gold plates, being denied each time.  At first he had been tempted to use the gold for earthly gain.  Each year he came back, he was more prepared but still not fully committed.  On the third visit, Moroni told him he had one more opportunity to align himself with God's desires or he would never obtain the plates.  Joseph spent the next year figuring out exactly what God wanted of him.  As instructed, he brought someone with him to obtain the plates, that was his wife Emma.  Knowing that people were out to get him and the plates for their own personal gain, he hid the plates in a hollow log.  The next day, he was able to get them back to the house,  but not without some physical altercations.  From there his life would be a constant uphill battle as he began the life of being a prophet.  Martin Harris, was approached by the prophets mother about financing the publishing of the Book of Mormon.  After much prayer and consideration, he decided that he would and became heavily involved in the translation process.  Martin Harris had his struggles as he yearned to have proof of the plates.  He believed Joseph to be a prophet and believed he had the plates but struggled to keep his wife and family at bay as they constantly battered him about how he was going to lose all of his wealth for this visionary man.  Martin pushed forward and even after losing the 116 pages of translated manuscript, he repented and continued doing the work of the Lord.  Joseph, also repented of trusting in man rather than The Lord.  Joseph regained his ability to translate and the work continued.Support the showThanks for listening!
