Listen "Restoring the Balance: Federalism, Liberty and the Law"
Episode Synopsis
In this week’s episode of Roots, Rights & Reason, host Lee Smith welcomes constitutional attorney and Coleman Nation podcast host Ron Coleman for a compelling conversation on one of the most fundamental yet misunderstood pillars of our Republic: federalism.Coleman explains that America’s unique system of government was founded on the idea of sovereign states, united in purpose but distinct in authority from the federal government. “The way it was formed was actually by the collection of a number of independent states into a union,” Coleman says. “The idea has always been for each of these states to continue to have an independent form of governance.”This episode explores the historical, cultural, and biblical roots of federalism-revealing how the Founders anticipated the corrosive influence of cities, elite detachment, and mob rule. “There is something about cities that corrupt people’s souls,” Coleman says. “Jefferson felt very strongly about that tension between urban life and rural virtue.”Smith and Coleman also take aim at activist district courts and the growing reliance on the Supreme Court to maintain constitutional order. “These decisions by out-of-control district courts,” Coleman explains, “are fundamental challenges to the way courts in the United States are supposed to operate. But the Supreme Court is stepping in.”Listen to Episode 6 and explore more episodes of Roots, Rights & Reason with Lee Smith at www.AmericasFuture.net
