Listen "Special Release: The Truth"
Episode Synopsis
The Whole Truth Behind My SobrietyIn this special edition of Rooted Real Talk, I open up about something I’ve never fully shared publicly before—the complete truth behind my sobriety journey. After being interviewed on The Andre “The Beast” Crayton Show, where Andre asked deeper questions than I expected, I realized it was finally time to speak openly about the parts of my story I’ve kept quiet for years. Not for pity, not for sympathy, but because sharing the raw truth might be the very thing that strengthens someone else walking through their own darkness. In this episode, I take you back to the real beginning—before sobriety, before transformation—back to the moment at sixteen when I was roofied and raped at a party. A moment that should have been a red flag but instead became the first brick in a long road of blackout drinking, depression, shame, and self-destruction. I open up about the years that followed: the lost memories, the bruises, the blackouts, the unhealthy weight changes, the anxiety, missing work, unsafe situations, and the cycle I couldn’t see clearly at the time.I share the car accident that could have taken not only my life, but someone else’s—an accident that happened just days before construction barricades went up in that same location. I talk about the DUI that never got filed, the moments of mercy I didn’t recognize until later, and the way God was protecting me even when I wasn’t protecting myself. I talk about my marriage, how Ron eventually confronted me with an ultimatum, and how that became the turning point where I knew something had to change. And then I explain how sobriety didn’t happen overnight. It started with small convictions, small choices, small awakenings. But ultimately, God removed the environments, the temptations, and even the excuses. This episode details the day in Mexico I made a final decision—a quiet internal “enough”—and how I’ve been sober ever since. Almost a year and a half.I also share something deeply important: why talking about some of the most painful parts of my story no longer breaks me. It’s because I’ve forgiven—myself, the people involved, and the girl I used to be. Shame has no place when grace enters. I talk about how forgiveness freed me, how God redeemed me, and how my past pain has become my purpose. This episode is about more than sobriety. It’s about identity. Faith. Transformation. About how God can take the ugliest parts of your story and turn them into the very testimony that sets someone else free. I talk about becoming a fully surrendered Christian—how I used to be lukewarm, reading scripture the same days I was blacking out—and how sobriety opened the door to a relationship with Jesus I never knew was possible.By the end of this episode, you’ll hear how God didn’t just pull me out of the pit—He rebuilt me from the inside out. Sobriety gave me clarity, energy, confidence, discipline… but God gave me identity, purpose, and freedom. And my message for you is simple:Your past does not define you. God can redeem anything. Your lowest moment can become the foundation of your greatest testimony. Choosing healing—one day at a time—can rewrite your entire story. If He did it for me, He can absolutely do it for you.
