Former Weekly Shonen Jump editor-in-chief Kazuhiko Torishima has once again voiced his criticism of One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda, this time for what he perceives as an over-involvement in the anime adaptation. The comments come from Torishima's new book, Botsu: The Hated Work Ethic of Shonen Jump’s Legendary Editor-in-Chief, released in May 2025.Per X (formerly Twitter) user Sandman, Torishima implied that Oda has been neglecting his manga in favor of the anime adaptation. "If I were Oda’s editor, I would give him extremely strict feedback on his manga because he has talent," Torishima reportedly states in the book, adding, "Oda has become too involved in anime." He expresses that his dissatisfaction is not with One Piece itself, but rather with the editorial policies of Shonen Jump.
