Episode Synopsis

When an organization wants to achieve its goals, it needs a vision. Effective leadership starts with recognizing and outlining those goals and inspiring others to follow. Leaders paint a picture of how that vision will affect the company as a whole, as well as each individual. A leader's ability to articulate that vision into a mission statement corresponds to actively implementing goals and the company's bottom-line success.

I had the pleasure to interview Gordon Prouty, Vice President of Public Relations and Community Affairs at Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino. In this role, he oversees media relations, publicity, and community and government outreach for this resort casino.

Originally from Syracuse, New York, Prouty has held senior-level media executive positions in Philadelphia, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle before coming to Southern Nevada to join the Greenspun Media Group as their group publisher in 2015. He joined Westgate Las Vegas as Director of Public Relations and Community Affairs in 2018 and got promoted to his current role in 2019. Prouty has also been an adjunct instructor at Syracuse University's prestigious S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

Gordon was named MyVegas Magazine 2021 "Man of the Year" and one of the 2022 Top 50 Business Leaders in Las Vegas by Real Vegas Magazine. He has served as a United Way of Southern Nevada and Las Vegas Business Academy board member. He also serves on the Nevada Donor Network and Cultural Diversity Foundation boards. He is also a member of the Vegas Chamber's President Club, the American Cancer Society's CEOs Against Cancer, and the Tech Impact Advisory Board.
He is active in the community, volunteering for several local organizations through the Westgate Las Vegas CareForce.

He donates his time to emcee several nonprofit events, including the NV Donor Network Inspire Gala and the Technology and Diversity For Charity Gala. Gordon is the Ambassador Champion for this year's American Cancer Society "Real Men Wear Pink" campaign and the Corporate Walk Chair for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light The Night Walk.
