Listen "Anchored 26: Obligation, Privilege, Duty, Entitlement"
Episode Synopsis
Jesus’ parable of the servant reminds us of a reality often overlooked in a culture of entitlement: we are unworthy servants, created to serve our Master. Duty may sound cold, but when viewed in light of the gospel, it becomes a joy and privilege.Coveting what others have—whether possessions, opportunities, or influence—flows from a distorted sense of entitlement. But when we see that Christ has exchanged our sin for His righteousness, any service we render is simply our reasonable response of gratitude. Nothing God asks of us is too much in light of the immeasurable grace He has given.Even more, the paradox deepens: though we come as servants, God calls us sons and daughters, heirs through Christ. What begins as obligation becomes privilege; what looks like duty becomes joy. Instead of exhausting ourselves by fixating on what we lack, we live freely by reflecting God’s goodness, serving Him with humility, and displaying to the world that He is our greatest treasure.
