Listen "The Punk Rebellion"
Episode Synopsis
Great interview with Nancy Barile. She along with countless other women in the city in the early 1980s, was an integral part of Philadelphia’s punk and hardcore scenes, as a promoter, manager and writer. Nancy Barile, decided to write her own memoir, I’m Not Holding Your Coat. Now in its 2nd edition, the book struck a chord. From disaffected Catholic schoolgirl and 1970s music fanatic to instigator on the 1980s hardcore punk scene, Nancy Barile pursued freedom at a time when punk music was new and dangerous. While booking some of Philadelphia's earliest DIY shows featuring Minor Threat and SSD, and managing raw local acts, Nancy was at the fierce center of the action as insurgents such as the Dead Kennedys and Black Flag rewrote history. She survived punk riots and urban decay, ran the streets with outcasts, and, in her rebellion, ultimately found true love--and a powerful understanding of human nature.Subscribe Here: https://bit.ly/37qGQQrLearn More: http://www.rocknrollfridays.comSupport the showIt's Rock 'n' Roll Fridays!FacebookYoutubeInstagramWebsite Got a Great Musical Story?
