Listen "PSALM 119 Series - Practicing Dependance and Unity"
Episode Synopsis
Have you ever watched baby birds being fed by their mother? Their heads tilt back, their mouths open wide, and they call out for food. Baby birds are completely reliant on their mother to survive. This is like our soul’s dependence on God and his instruction.
In this section of Psalm 119, each line begins with the Hebrew letter pe, meaning mouth and representing the power of speech. The psalmist uses this section to highlight the power of the mouth of God, admonishing God’s decrees, words, commands, promises, precepts, statutes, and instruction—all of which come from the mouth of God.
The psalmist even uses a word picture to communicate how his soul hungers and thirsts for God’s instruction. He writes, “I open my mouth and pant because I long for your commands.”
