Listen "VII: Live on SXSW Exhibit Floor - SXSW Shows How Conferences are Changing Economic Development, Tourism Industries"
Episode Synopsis
This episode comes to you from the middle of the Exhibit Floor at South by Southwest (SXSW). We discuss what it's like to be at this interdisciplinary conference in Austin, Texas and bring you some of the stories of tech and innovation that we've seen. We talk about this by picking the brains of three guests, speaking to each from their booth at SXSW. First is Jennifer Bosser, Senior Business Retention & Expansion Manager for the City of Raleigh, who's attending SX for the 7th time, and who walks us through how a brand thinks through using SXSW as a platform. Next is Danya Perry, Director of Equitable Economic Development at Wake County Economic Development, who discusses how the diversity and "space to connect" at SXSW mirrors some of his current initiatives and foci. And finally, Loren Gold, Executive Vice President of Visit Raleigh, joins us with a description of how tech is disrupting that space of tourism and economic development. Don't miss this unique episode, with three different perspectives of how economic development leaders think through brand activation at a large-scale event like SXSW, and how both the conference and those industries have changed in the last two decades.
