Listen "Genesis 20-21 sermon"
Episode Synopsis
This sermon is on Genesis 20-21. The actual sermon does not begin until just after the 8 minute mark as it is preceded by the reading of Genesis 20-21 (there is a slight break in between at one point). The sermon was preached by Richard Lane at St Stephen's Bellevue Hill on Sunday 13th February 2022. A personal note from Richard Lane:"At the start of the sermon I express a difference of opinion with the general commentary and understanding of Genesis 20. I illustrate this by quoting from Kent Hughes' commentary. While I disagree with his opinion here, I want to underline here that my intention is not to be dismissive of his commentary which I have found immensely helpful in studying Genesis. My point is rather to highlight that I am 'going against the flow', but in making the point I'm conscious it might be misunderstood. I have commented a little upon this in my blog 'Riding on the Clouds' - though I have not given a full argument. In short, while I am differing with the commentary of people like Kent Hughes, Dale Davis, Gordon Wenham and Iain Duguid, I do so with some reluctance for I have the utmost respect for these commentators whose writings I have found to be immensely insightful and illuminating in my understanding of the book of Genesis."
