Born in Neath, South Wales in 1981, Richard began playing the piano in 1993. From 1996-2000 he studied with Miss Mary Rees (formerly Head of Piano at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama), furthering his studies in 2000 at the Royal College of Music, London, studying piano with Yonty Solomon and composition with Edwin Roxburgh and Kenneth Hesketh. He graduated from the RCM in July 2004. Richard has performed extensively at a range of venues including Wigmore Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Chipping Campden Music Festival, Sadler’s Wells Theatre, Cheltenham Town Hall, and at Buckingham Palace. He has made many television appearances and has worked with a wide variety of performers, including Max Bygraves, Isla St. Clair, Sir Willard White, Geri Halliwell, Connie Fisher, John Owen Jones and Rhydian Roberts. Richard's compositional output consists of solo, vocal, ensemble and choral music, as well as the soundtrack to several independent films. His latest soundtrack is 'M', a short, American horror film directed by Josh Banks. His music is published at SheetMusicPlus.com, Canasg (UK) and Lassus Publications (USA). A Whisperings Artist, his debut solo piano album of his own music entitled Passing Thoughts was released in March 2010 followed by November in November 2010, Echoes in November 2011 and Seasons in Flight in April 2013. His fifth album The Last Days of Summer was released in September 2015 and was nominated for Classical Album of the Year at SoloPiano.com. His sixth album tristesse, was released in December 2017, followed by Flow in March 2019. His music has been featured on BBC Radio Wales. He has also recorded two albums of the music of Erik Satie. His first ambient album Borders was released in April 2021. Richard has written articles for ThoughtCatalog.com and HustleAndGrind.co. His book You Can Create! 24 Ways To Unlock Your Creative Potential was published in August 2016. He is currently piano tutor at The Music Academy, Neath College, and is arranger for the newly reformed Black Mountain Chorus of Wales.
