Understanding GoodGood: (H2896 – as used in Genesis 1:4) טוֹב ṭôḇ; טוֹבָהṭôḇâ; from 2895; good (as an adjective) in the widest sense; used likewise as a noun, both in the masculine and the feminine, the singular and the plural (good, a good or good thing, a good man or woman; the good, goods or good things, good men or women), also as an adverb (well): Genesis 1:1-4  This is the first Biblical reference to “good.” The first good thing God created was light. Not the luminance from our sun – that was created on the fourth day of creation. For example, He shows no mercy to those who show no mercy towards others. That they would desire the very thing which they lack themselves. Matthew 6:11-15  God uses evil to symbolize the state of judgment, that people may repent and look for good while there is hope in this life. God shows the evil for what it is – evil. God shows a lack of goodness, lovingkindness, and mercy to those who show a lack of goodness, lovingkindness, and mercy. God wants all people to be His people, and He wants to be their God. That is why He points out and demonstrates evil to promote repentance back towards Him.
