In just his first year of coaching the Horned Frogs, Sonny Dykes took TCU to a place that no Texas School has ever gone! The College Football Playoff. Sonny is the consensus “Coach of the Year” with 10 National Honors including the Bear Bryant, Walter Camp, Eddie Robinson along with the Fort Worth Inc. “Person of the Year” and “Distinguished Texan”. TCU posted a historic 12-0 perfect regular season with 5 comebacks from 2nd half deficits. The Frogs beat Michigan in the Fiesta Bowl/National Championship Semifinals in one of the most exciting CFP games ever! But, fell back to earth in the Title game against Georgia. That loss fuels Sonny and the Frogs to get back to the promised land no matter what you hear from a SEC school in College Station.

The Frogs have been ahead of their time in the transfer portal and Sonny talks about the delicate balance between that and the NIL, which he strongly supports! The NFL drafted a record 8 Horned Frogs and there will be many new faces on offense! Coach Dykes has been around some of the greatest offensive minds and personalities in his career from Mike Leach to Hal Mumme to Dana Holgorson to Mike Stoops. Plus, his foundation starts with Dad who is a Texas Treasure and never forgotten. Gary Patterson has a statue in front of Amon G. Carter and built TCU into a National Power while Sonny is taking it to an even higher level! It’s very rare for a Coach to work on both sides of the DFW in the Battle of the Iron Skillet…He pulled it off and is loved by both schools.

This Journeyman has made stops at Richardson Pearce HS, Texas Tech, Kentucky, NE Louisiana, Arizona, La Tech, Cal, SMU, TCU, and Navarro Junior College where he barely had any money after his car payment!
