I recently reconnected with an ex from high school. We’d very loosely kept in touch in the interim, but it’d been nearly 20 years since we’d truly caught up. We live across the country from each other (Texas and Maryland). We were speaking early on Saturday afternoon and she jokingly invited me to dinner that night. I jokingly looked up flights to see if there were any available and how outrageously expensive it’d be to fly +1300 miles on a moment’s notice.
