We have to be careful about what we humans consider normal. Human beings died spiritually (the great fall in Gen 3), that means everything we consider normal is actually the wrong normal. That is why Adam was burnished from the garden of Eden preventing him from eating from the tree of life which would have caused him to live forever in a state of spiritual deadness, which is a state human beings are in if the don't obey Jesus's commands even after getting saved.
