When Adam disobeyed Jesus, he was sinning and he died spiritually. The pattern is still the same, "SIN KILLS SPIRITUALLY", not physically which is the cause of why people who go to church are spiritually dead (they never stop sinning, thus dying spiritually again). When he died spiritually Satan took over the earth, not as ownership but as it's steward.
