Once upon a time, men blessed the world. Women rarely had to open doors, and little old ladies never had to cross the street alone. Men took charge, worked hard, and laid down their lives—because that’s what they were made to do. But somewhere along the way, the world decided it no longer needed men. And faster than you could say “skinny jeans,” men were stripped of their masculinity and left stranded on the road between boyhood and androgyny. But today there are questions our gender neutral society has no answer for: misogyny, pornography, rape culture and #MeToo, bullying, school shootings, isolation and depression, single mothers, absentee fathers, the opioid epidemic, the Alt-Right. What if the problem isn’t too much masculinity, but nowhere near enough? What if the problem is that guys are told to be a man but nobody knows what that means anymore? What if instead of blaming “toxic masculinity” we recovered God’s compelling vision for men? Only then will we again be able to bless the world.
