Listen "The Power of Sharing Stories in Motherhood with Yodit Kifle-Smith"
Episode Synopsis
In this conversation, Katelyn Galvin and Yodit Kifle-Smith discuss the transition into motherhood and the challenges and changes that come with it. They also talk about the power of storytelling and the importance of sharing experiences and supporting other mothers. Kifle-Smith shares her work with Say It Forward, a platform that allows women and girls to share their stories, and the impact it has had on her own understanding of the power of stories. They also discuss the concept of matrescence, the transition into motherhood, and the need to embrace the changes and give oneself grace during this phase of life. Matrescenceis a term that helps put language to the major changes and challenges that women go through during pregnancy and motherhood. It is a huge learning curve on every level, and the stakes are high. It is important to give this phase the respect it deserves and to understand that it is a process. The external factors, such as support from family and friends, can greatly influence the experience of the first year of motherhood. Being away from family and raising a child in a different cultural context can present its own challenges, but finding contentment in the journey and trusting in God's plan can help navigate through them. Surrendering control and trusting in God's love and care for our children is essential in parenting. It is important to model humility, reflect on our own actions and beliefs, and seek support and community during this phase of life.
