Forced to stay in a semi-derelict inn where they are greeted with suspicion, they receive a surprise invitation to dine at the nearby castle with Dr. Ravna and his two grown children. The head of the local aristocratic family offers his assistance with dire consequences.   "I will not say that she has not changed in any way, Mr. Harcourt. She has, as you may put it, grown up.
