Do you know the fear of the LORD? Do you understand Him rightly?Do you respect Him and revere Him as you should? Uzzah, whom the LORD put to death for touching the ark, his sin was not small and inconsequential. It wasn’t just that he touched the Ark, but that He lacked the fear of the LORD. He lacked the understanding of the holiness of God. He presumed that he could approach God. He took God lightly, to think that he, a sinful man, could reach out and touch the Ark of God.
So we have this conundrum, wrapped up in the imagery of the ark. The beauty of the LORD and the fear of the LORD side by side.
He is what our hearts long for, He is the peace and joy and hope and everything we desire. But He is also a consuming fire. Absolutely unapproachable, untouchable for sinners.
