When we are shown a standard or goal, the natural human tendency is to work hard and make it happen. This is what happens within the human heart when we are shown how the law of God is holy, just, and good. We may not consciously think of it all the time, but there is something inside of us that wants to try a little harder, or take another run at it. Attempting to be right with God by our own ability is exhausting. This is because the power that you need for victory is not found in you, it is only found in Jesus. In the 2nd half of Romans 7, Paul uses himself as an example of the attempt to be holy on his own and the result is wretchedness. The spiritual law cannot be kept by the work of the flesh, it requires a supernatural work of the Spirit of God on your behalf. Trust Jesus for the holiness and victory you need.
