People are servants by divine design. This means that your default position is as a servant. There is no question as to whether or not you will serve, the only question you have any influence over is in who or what you will serve. Paul uses an illustration to describe for you the 4th thing that you need to know in order to win your war with sin. The analogy used here is that of the roles of master and slave...and you are in the role of the salve. You can either be the slave of sin, or the slave of righteousness, the slave of Jesus. Which will you choose?
