Listen "Jonah 2:1-10"
Episode Synopsis
Jonah finds himself in a painful and shameful situation. He is in the belly of a great fish because of his sinful rebellion. Yet God is still in control, and still at work for Jonah. The painful and shameful consequences of sin are a gift of God’s grace designed to bring us to the end of ourselves that we might look up to Him. Jonah eventually comes to himself and cries out to God, and finds out that God was waiting to hear Jonah’s voice. God graciously delivers Jonah’s life from the fish in a miraculous display of His great power. Yet Jonah 2 isn’t really about Jonah and a fish, it’s about Jesus and His cross. As Jonah is swallowed by the fish and vomited back onto the shore 3 days later he is foreshadowing Jesus’s death, burial, and resurrection. Though you and I deserve to be abandoned in our rebellious choices, God still pursues us with His loving grace to bring us to the end of ourselves. It is in that place that we look up to Him.
