Not everything is as it appears to be, sometimes the packaging can deceiving. This has been true of Israel's first king, Saul. He has all the outward appearance of stature, power, and success; yet as you look at his life there are some deep heart issues. In chapter 16 God turns this concept on its head by introducing us to His choice for king of Israel, a young shepherd boy named David. There was nothing outwardly appealing about David, even his own father and brothers thought very little of him, and yet God saw something deeply incredible within this young man. What was the secret to David being chosen by God? What was it that made him so special? It was not that David had super-human powers, nor that he was perfect and sinless. David was filled with faults, failures, and flaws. But the one thing that set him apart and made his life a powerful force was that he had a heart after God's heart. This same heart is available to you, and comes as a gracious gift from Jesus. When you place your faith in Jesus, He promises to put a new heart and new mind within you. Will you trust and follow Jesus with your life?
