Our senior pastor at Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Charleston, SC, continued in John 21 this past Sunday, April 10 looking at changes resulting from The Week That Changed the World. We saw last week that Jesus' Resurrection had the power to preserve the disciples, evidenced by their being together even after the disruptive events of the resurrection. For this sermon, Craig asks, "What will happen to the Church if we don't take our places as the preserved people?"
John wrote his gospel as an old man in a changed and changing world: There are heretics teaching wrong things, yet John writes his gospel urging the Church then (and us today) to continue in faith. In the first 14 verses, he tells a story of the Lord's provision, which enabled John to recognize the resurrected Jesus not by his face but by his character. Just as Jesus had served the disciples at The Last Supper, he served them fish on the beach.

Through the Word, we can see the Lord and recognize him. We're often unfamiliar with him because we don't study his Word. May we study his Word and continue in faith, so we can say with John, "It is the Lord."
