Gathered, yet going. As the people of God we don’t just gather each Sunday to hear a good and encouraging word only to leave that wisdom in the chapel. One of the main reasons that God speaks to us is to move us beyond ourselves for the sake of others. To cause us to be a people who apply the wisdom and gift of Scripture to our hearts and spread that wisdom and gift across the culture around us.At Redeemer this upcoming Sunday, John Rogers, from Harbor City Church in San Diego, will be preaching part one of a two part series on the topic of God’s people being a gathered, yet going church.To best prepare for this week’s sermon, spend ​5​ minutes by yourself or with your family and friends around the table and read ​Deuteronomy 4:1-8​. ​Reflect over it and ask each other what the practical implications are of being part of a church that gathers weekly, but also takes the wisdom and gifts of salvation into the culture around us.Personally, I am sad to have to miss worshiping with you this Sunday. I served our denomination this week by attending the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in America in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and will remain on the East Coast this weekend.
