Episode Synopsis

Our summer series through the book of Jonah begins this Sunday. The story of the Minor Prophet Jonah is one of the most well known stories in the Old Testament. This short four chapter book is a literary masterpiece that captures our imaginations in a playful manner with irony and satire. Every page takes us on a wild ride.We literally have a hard time believing all the aspects of the story and we cannot comprehend why God would speak to such a rebellious, arrogant, and compassionless prophet like Jonah. What is more fascinating about the book than the great fish that swallows Jonah or the sending of the prophet to the evil city of Nineveh, is that we (the readers) begin to see ourselves in the person of Jonah!Through the book we see Jonah’s, as well as our own, tendency to struggle with showing compassion to others who are not like us. Over the next four weeks as we study this wonderful book, may our prayer be that God expands our hearts toward others around us. Not to simply find ways to serve them, but to take the time to have our hearts be moved by their troubles and pain. To show compassion by suffering with them.I look forward to worshiping with you on Sunday and seeing how God will (re)form us during this summer series through the book of Jonah.Pastor Adam
