Listen "See It, Own It, Live It: A 6-Stage Framework for Acceptance"
Episode Synopsis
Yesterday I was standing on a curb about to step in to a parking lot when I realized that I couldn’t see so well looking from left to right. In retrospect, I also realized that despite being acknowledged as totally and permanently disabled, I haven’t accepted that my vision disorder puts my safety at risk during something as simple as crossing the street. It’s easier to wave it off and say, “I’m fine,” than it is to humble myself and grab someone’s arm. The Fine-to-Flow (6-F’s) Acceptance Framework lays out six clear stages of acceptance. First is Fine, where denial blurs self-awareness. Focus hits when reality snaps in, and you see what is at stake if you don’t accept. Friction is the emotional pushback, but naming the fear defuses its power. In the fourth, Framework stage, you look at the facts and turn fear into action. Next is Flex, practicing new habits to rewire new confidence. Finally, Flow arrives when caution replaces panic, and life regains its rhythm in the new norm. These stages apply to everyday fears, disabilities, and any challenge that appears. Cycle through “see it”, “own it”, “live it” with a little more grace each round. For me, it’s a structured path from stepping blindly into the street to grabbing a hold of a friend’s arm for security.Listen and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts and YouTube.
