Listen "Asian American Pacific Islander Celebration"
Episode Synopsis
Asian Americans have a rich tradition in Colorado, from a bustling Chinatown in lower downtown Denver to an expansive culture across the state. This week on Real Talk with Denver 7 and CPR News we explore the history of Denver’s once thriving Chinatown neighborhood and the work to remove a plaque that inaccurately portrayed riots that took place there in the 1800s. Then, a muralist works to explore her heritage while bringing a colorful vision to life. And for one Japanese American living in Denver, food is the gateway to culture — his new book highlights the historical impact of Japanese cuisine in Colorado and how it welcomes new people into his heritage.
Real Talk airs on CPR News and KRCC on Fridays at 3:30 p.m. and Mondays at 6:30 p.m. The TV show airs on Denver7 on Saturdays at 5:30 a.m. and Sundays at 5:30 p.m. It also airs on Local3 on Saturdays at 9:30 a.m. and Sundays at 6:30 p.m.
