Welcome back to Reading with Ben! Let's continue the lecture on the book of Deuteronomy.
This is episode #04 chapters 07 & 08.
Deuteronomy Chapter 7, When God gave the nation of Israel its land, the Israelites were expected to “completely destroy” the other nations that were living there. The people of Israel were not supposed to intermarry with the people in this land since, presumably, the children born from these marriages would be taught the worshiping of other gods, and this would make the Lord angry. They were supposed to worship only one God, and this goes for their children, too.
Deuteronomy Chapter 8, Moses tells the Israelites that they are to remember how God led them for forty years while they were in the wilderness, and that this was to not only humble them, but also to test their hearts. He tells them their clothing did not have to be replaced and their feet did not swell. They are to understand that God discipline them the same way a father will discipline his own son.
