Listen "Rapidly Rotating Records 78 RPM Show – September 19, 2021"
Episode Synopsis
Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.
Before we get to this week’s show, on last week’s show, I said the vocalist on “Open Up Your Arms, California last week was Irving Kaufman. Well, that’s not true. He’s LeRoy Montesanto, who is slated to get his own segment on the May 22, 2022.
As for this week’s show, do you know who the fellow is pictured above? He’s tenor saxophonist Leon Brown “Chu” Berry. He’s not been heard on the show before, nor even had his name mentioned, but you’ll hear all about him and hear a bit of his work in the final segment of this week’s edition of Rapidly Rotating Records. In the first segment we’ll go on a transcontinental motorcycle ride A couple of week’s ago in a segment promoting the sale of Rapidly Rotating Records t-shirts, I played “Watchin’ The Clock” by Clarence Williams but talked over most the records. This week, in a segment about clocks, you’ll get to hear the entire, un-tampered-with record. I promised more of Joe Belmont’s whistling, and he starts off the third segment of the show, all about waves, ocean and otherwise. A recent video on social media is the inspiration for the fourth segment of the show, about swimming and bathing. And the final segment of the show is a tribute to jazz radio legend Phil Schaap, who passed away earlier this month. There’s lots of great music and interesting information, so set aside an hour with your favorite beverage and be magically transported back to a different (and we think better!) musical era.
ENJOY THE SHOW!
