Episode Synopsis

“The purpose of communion is not ritual. The purpose of communion is to encounter the resurrected Christ.” – Rob Sharp.
Every spiritual discipline is about getting you into a position to receive. We know that when
we take communion, Jesus is revealed to us, and that it’s one way we position ourselves to
receive from him. If our spiritual development is dependent solely on our capacity to receive,
and communion is an opportunity to receive from Jesus, how important is it that taking
communion is a regular practice in our Christian life?
In this week’s message, Rob shares how taking communion everyday, and centering his
devotional life around it, has shaped his walk with God over the past few years. Rob gives us
5 powerful and practical steps to start taking communion regularly, and reaping the benefits
of it.

1. Receive
2. Give thanks
3. Remember the body
4. Remember the blood
5. Proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
In taking communion, we firstly prepare our minds and our hearts to receive. When we are
postured to receive from God in communion, we use the seal of our faith, which is thanks.
Then we remember the body of Christ, not just recalling correct theology to our minds, but
allowing our minds to be saturated with the light of the truth. In communion, we remember
the body, and we remember the blood of Jesus. Lastly, when we take communion, we
proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes (1 Corinthians 11:26).
