Listen "Dr. Jennifer Hartstein: Children Suicidal Tendency | Raising Parents #17"
Episode Synopsis
While it is often associated with adults, suicidal tendencies can be experienced by children and teenagers too. This is a deeply concerning issue that requires urgent attention and action. As parents, it is our responsibility to ensure the emotional well-being of our children and to create an environment that supports mental and emotional health.
In this episode of Raising Parents, host Dina Sargeant was joined by Dr. Jennifer Hartstein, the owner, and founder of Hartstein Psychological Services, PLLC, a group psychotherapy practice. She is currently in private practice in New York City, specializing in the treatment of high-risk children and adolescents. Dr. Jen works with children, adolescents, and their families with a wide range of psychological diagnoses. She has received intensive training in adolescent suicide assessment and has specialized in this population for several years.
Dr. Jen discussed suicide ideation in children and emphasized the critical role parents play in identifying and addressing early warning signs. She advised parents to be open and vigilant in their communication with children and to seek outside help if necessary. Dr. Jen also provided suggestions on how to create open communication with their children and be available when their children need to talk.
