Listen "RadBio E15C: Normal Tissues - Late Effects (Heart, Kidney, and Lens)"
Episode Synopsis
This is Episode 15, Part C: Normal Tissues - Late Effects (Heart, Kidney, and Lens). In our previous episode, we discussed the late effects of radiation on the central nervous system and the lungs. Today, we continue our exploration of late normal tissue toxicities by focusing on three more critical organs: the heart, the kidneys, and the lens of the eye. These organs, while perhaps not always dose-limiting in the same way as the spinal cord, can suffer significant long-term consequences from radiation exposure, impacting patient quality of life and even survival. We'll look at the specific types of damage radiation can cause in these tissues, the underlying mechanisms, and their clinical implications.
