Listen "S2 Ep1497: Big Broadway Energy with Dylan Barlow and Alaina Rahaim"
Episode Synopsis
Welcome back to Big Broadway Energy, the podcast where your host, Stephen Riordan, dives deep into the vibrant and ever-evolving world of theater in St. Petersburg and the Tampa Bay Area!
December has finally arrived, and with it comes a sleigh-full of new holiday productions from our local theaters. One of our favorite emerging companies — The Off-Central Players — is bringing back a hilarious hit from last year: the outrageous one-woman comedy Who’s Holiday!
This week, Stephen is joined by two incredible artists who are the heart and soul of this production:
🎭 Director: Dylan Barlow
🎭 Cindy Lou Who Herself: Alaina Rahaim
Together, they break down the wild ride of bringing a beloved Dr. Seuss character into adulthood… a very messy adulthood. From trailer-park living on Mt. Crumpit to fourth-wall-breaking comedy, interactive storytelling, and enough bottles onstage to make your aunt blush — this show is everything your holiday season needs.
🎄 About Who’s Holiday
“One woman. One bottle. One very merry meltdown.”
And yes — as Alaina says — there are definitely more than one bottle involved.
Cindy Lou Who is all grown up, and her life has… not gone the way any Dr. Seuss fan might expect. This wickedly funny, adults-only parody peels back the candy-coated façade of Whoville to reveal heartbreak, resilience, and more than a little chaos.
The result? A hilarious, heartfelt, deeply human holiday ride — packed into a tight, one-hour theatrical punch.
🎙️ Episode Highlights
Why The Off-Central is the perfect home for intimate, immersive theater.
The artistic challenge and thrill of a one-person show.
Dylan’s love of The Grinch and how it shapes his directorial lens.
Alaina’s journey into Cindy Lou’s psyche — and her natural affinity for larger-than-life comedic roles.
The realities of parody, permission, and a certain Dr. Seuss lawsuit.
How the Tampa Bay theater community continues to explode with opportunity for emerging and established artists alike.
A reminder that art, at its core, is magic, play, imagination, and connection.
