Listen "2802: Roundtable: Commodity Price Stabilization in South Sudan"
Episode Synopsis
The focus of this week's Roundtable is the government's efforts to stabilize market prices in response to the skyrocketing costs across the country.
According to a June 2024 World Bank report, South Sudan is currently the country most severely affected by food inflation, making it the nation with the highest food prices in the world.
This has put immense strain on citizens, many of whom are struggling to provide basic meals for their families.
In response, President Salva Kiir has directed the newly appointed Minister of Trade and Industry, Joseph Moum Majak, to prioritize the empowerment of local traders. But what measures are being taken to ensure fair competition among businesses and to protect consumer rights against exploitation?
Joining Sani Martin in the studio we had:
Hon. Eng. Mayen Deng Alier - Chairperson of the Committee on Trade and Industry in the Transitional National Legislative Assembly
Robert Pitia - Chairperson, Central Equatoria State Chamber of Commerce
Akol Maduok – Head of Department of Economics at the University of Juba
