I think we've all heard the story of the Rich Young Ruler. But very often the entire story gets flattened to be about money and wealth. As we got into this, the entire theology of grace emerges. Once we came to the root of this passage, we got into a discussion about stewardship which was useful and then we circled back to probably the most profound point of the passage... a discussion of what is good, why try to do good and trying to understand the love of the Father. That last part comes from a bit of a raw personal past but if scripture never leads you there, then you're not engaging with scripture.
The most important part of this discussion is the engagement that comes after the end of the expose'. We simply started asking questions a normal person might ask. The most profound answers you get from the Bible happen when you engage, not just when you read. Even if you are in a Bible study and you are listening and learning, if you are not asking questions and then listening to the Spirit and the Word speak to you, you may be missing out on one of the most beautiful aspects of Biblical study. You're missing out on the relationship you have with your Father.
